St. Clair County woman sues another over accident

A St. Clair County woman has filed suit against another St. Clair County woman, alleging she was seriously injured after a collision.

On Jan. 11, 2007, Debra L. Bilyeu was driving south on Bethel Meadows in St. Clair County when Jody McNeill, who was driving east on Highridge near its intersection with Bethel Meadows, struck the front of Bilyeu's vehicle, according to the complaint filed Jan. 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the accident, Bilyeu claims she endured several diagnostic tests and various pain management and physical therapies and sustained permanent, partial and total disabilities to her body including fractures, sprains, damaged disks, muscle spasms and contusions.

She also sustained past and future pain and suffering, mental anguish, inconvenience, physical impairment and a loss of capacity to enjoy life, plus medical costs, the suit states.

McNeill was negligent by failing to obey a traffic-control device, by failing to keep her vehicle under proper control, by failing to yield the right-of-way, by failing to keep her vehicle under control, by failing to sound a warning of her approach and by failing to keep a constant lookout for other vehicles, according to the complaint.

Bilyeu is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

She is represented by Morgan Scroggins of Scroggins Law Office in Granite City.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-0007.
