Woman claims serious injuries in East St. Louis accident

Felisha Clay has filed suit against Richard Ballard, alleging her head, neck and back were seriously injured after he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with her vehicle.

Clay was driving south on North Ninth Street at its intersection with St. Clair Avenue in East St. Louis on March 11 at 8:25 a.m. when the accident occurred, according to the complaint filed Dec. 23 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

"At the time of the collision described herein plaintiff was lawfully operating her automobile through the intersection of North 9th Street and St. Clair Avenue after having stopped at the intersection as required by the traffic control sign governing her travel on North 9th Street," the suit states.

Ballard was driving his vehicle and trailer east on St. Clair Avenue near the same intersection, Clay claims.

But he did not stop at the intersection's stop sign and struck Clay's vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, Clay suffered pain and mental anguish, incurred medical casts and lost wages, the suit states.

She claims Ballard was negligent by failing to keep his vehicle under proper control, by failing to keep a proper lookout, by failing to yield to traffic and by driving too fast.

Clay is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

She is represented by William P. Gavin of the Gavin Law Firm in Belleville.
