Rick Rhoades and Charisma Hall have filed suit against Mary Sedekum, alleging they were seriously injured after she struck the side of the vehicle in which they were traveling.
Rhoades was driving with Hall as his passenger east on Fullerton Road at its intersection with North Illinois Street in Swansea on Nov. 24 when Sedekum, who driving north on North Illinois Street at the same intersection, hit the side of the vehicle Rhoades was driving, according to the complaint filed Dec. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Because of the accident, Rhoades received injuries to his neck, shoulder and low back, the suit states.
Hall received injuries to her neck, shoulder and low back, she claims.
Both Rhoades and Hall were made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, incurred medical costs, lost money form a loss of wages, experienced pain and suffering and suffered disability from their injuries, according to the complaint.
Sedekum was negligent by failing to keep a proper lookout, by driving in such a manner that she struck the side of a vehicle, by failing to properly apply the brakes of her vehicle, by driving too fast, by failing to obey a traffic signal and by entering an intersection when the light was red, the suit states.
In the two-count suit, Rhoades and Hall are seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
They are represented by Thomas C. Rich and Jennifer L. Barbieri of Fairview Heights.
