Alton collision is subject of suit

A Missouri man has filed suit against an Alton woman, alleging he was seriously injured after she collided with him.

Leonard Sykes was driving a 2006 Dodge van north on Illinois Route 167 near its intersection with West Ninth Street in Alton on Jan. 25, 2007, when Lisa Blotevogel, who was driving a 2005 Ford Mustang south on Illinois Route 167 near the same intersection, collided with him, according to the complaint filed Dec. 17 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the accident, Sykes neck, shoulder, arms, hands, back, chest and spine were injured and he suffered a right radial styloid fracture, the suit states.

In addition, Sykes claims he incurred medical expenses and suffered a loss of income.

Blotevogel was negligent by failing to keep a careful lookout, by failing to yield the right-of-way, by failing to stop or swerve to avoid a collision and by causing her vehicle to turn in front of the vehicle Sykes was driving, according to the complaint.

Sykes is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

He is represented by James P. Leonard of Devereaux, Stokes, Nolan, Fernandez and Leonard in St. Louis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-1185.
