Cottage Hills couple sued by guest who trips on their entryway

Amy Gentry has filed suit against a Cottage Hills couple, alleging her back was injured after she fell in their entry stairway.

Gentry claims she was visiting Thomas M. and Minette C. Wilson on Oct. 16, 2006, and fell on the stairway as she was leaving the house.

Gentry suffered severe, painful and permanent injuries to her body and limbs and spent substantial amounts for medical costs, according to the complaint filed Oct. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court.

In addition, Gentry is unable to pursue her ordinary activities, the suit states.

She claims the Wilsons were negligent because they maintained an entry stairway without handrails and without a non-skid tread surface, allowed the stairway to become tilted and failed to repair it and allowed the stairway to become worn and slick.

Gentry is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

She is represented by Doug Mendenhall of Smith, Mendenhall and Selby in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 08-L-976.
