A wrongful death suit has been filed against Dr. Shakeel Ahmed and the Center for Gastrointestinal Health in Belleville by a woman whose family member died following a colonoscopy and endoscopy.
In a suit filed Oct. 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Kasandra Adams claims Billy Tweedy died Oct. 24, 2006, following a procedure that was done Oct. 15, 2006.
She claims that Ahmed, a gastroenterologist, failed to manage Tweedy's clotting disorder, failed to administer Heparin and failed to admit Tweedy into the hospital following the procedure.
"Billy Tweedy's condition went undiagnosed and untreated, and he suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disfigurement," the complaint states.
Adams is represented by Thomas Q. Keefe, Jr. of Belleville. She is seeking in excess of $225,000 in damages.
