Collinsville Middle School blamed for student's knee injuries

The mother of a Collinsville Middle School student is suing the school district for injuries her daughter suffered after falling on a wet gym floor while playing indoor soccer.

Gail VanMeter alleges that her daughter, Brittney Vahey, injured her knees after slipping on water that had leaked from the gym's ceiling on Nov. 15, 2006.

According to the complaint filed Oct. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court, VanMeter claims Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 is negligent for failing to repair a leaking roof.

She claims her daughter required medical care and medications as a result of her injuries.

The suit claims the school should have put up barricades where the water leak occurred;

VanMeter is represented by Richard G. Reed and Jeanine R. Armstrong of Reed and Bruhn in Belleville.

She is seeking in excess of $150,000 in damages.
