St. Clair County named in auto accident suit

Janith Morris has filed suit against St. Clair County and its employee Patrick Walters for head, back, neck and shoulder injuries she sustained in an auto accident June 26, 2007.

According to a complaint filed May 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Morris was "in a generally westerly direction" on Greenmount Road stopped for a red light at the intersection of Lebanon Avenue when she was struck from the rear by a St. Clair County-owned vehicle driven by Walters.

Morris claims Walters showed a conscious disregard for the safety of the general public by operating his vehicle while "inputting, processing, and/or downloading information on an in-vehicle computer system."

She also claims he failed to bring his vehicle to a complete stop prior to operating the vehicle's computer system.

Represented by Bruce E. Mattea of Collinsville, Morris is seeking in excess of $200,000 in damages plus costs of the suit.

She claims she suffers headaches, neck pain, back pain, extremity pain, pelvic pain, stomach pain and chest pain as a result of the accident.

"Plaintiff's ability to enjoy the pleasures of life have been lessened, weakened and diminished," the complaint states.
