Virgil Calvert Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East St. Louis is being sued by an attorney for a resident whose right leg had to be amputated.
Augusta Williams, attorney-in-fact for resident A.G. Williams, claims the nursing home was negligent in its care of resident Williams between Dec. 20, 2005, through May 19, 2006, according to a suit filed May 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
"...A.G. Williams sustained injuries including but not limited to an infectious decubitus ulcer to his right big toe, gangrene in his right big toe, foot and leg which required the amputation of his right leg," the complaint states.
The complaint alleges Williams suffered and continues to suffer severe and repeated pain and suffering, mental anguish and emotional distress and has become further debilitated and disabled.
"...[H]e has lost and will continue to lose large sums of money in medical expenses in obtaining treatment for his injuries and plaintiff's opportunity to participate in ordinary activities and ability to enjoy life have been adversely affected," the complaint states.
SW Management Co. and Virgil Calvert Property LLC have been named as co-defendants.
Ronnie Klein has been named as a respondent in discovery because "the plaintiff believes she has information essential to the determination of who should properly be named as additional defendants in this case."
Seeking in excess of $150,000 in damages, Williams is represented by Staci M. Yandle of Belleville.
