Woman sues Madison County Transit and driver for parking lot collision

A Mitchell woman filed a personal injury suit in Madison County Circuit Court April 4, alleging she and her three minor children were injured when a Madison County Transit bus collided with them.

Carlas Baker claims the bus driver, co-defendant Richard Neal of St. Jacob, collided with her in the parking lot of the Granite City Wal-Mart on April 17.

According to Baker, Neal was driving a 2006 New Flyer 40 bus owned by Madison County Transit.

She claims Neal was negligent by failing to decrease his speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to stop, swerve, or otherwise take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Baker claims she sustained injuries to her left knee and back which caused great physical pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages.

She claims her three minor children also sustained various injuries which caused her to become liable for their medical bills.

Represented by Greg Becker of Granite City, Baker is seeking damages in excess of $15,000, but less than $50,000.

The case is set for mandatory arbitration.
