Donald Reed of Bunker Hill claims a fellow patron of Chestney's Bar in Bunker Hill broke his left arm after striking it with a nail-studded 2x4 on March 10, 1007.
Reed filed a dram shop complaint against Cleo's Bar in Edwardsville,
alleging the bar had earlier sold intoxicating beverages to David Crook, the man responsible for the alleged assault.
According to the complaint filed in Madison County Circuit Court March 12, Crook was consuming alcoholic beverages at Cleo's which caused him to become intoxicated, which caused or contributed to the assault.
Reed claims his injuries are severe and permanent in nature. He claims his injuries have caused and will continue to cause him to incur medical expenses and have prevented him from attending to his usual duties and affairs. Reed also claims lost wages.
Represented by William Miller, III, of Alton, Reed is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
