A Cisne, Ill. woman claims she suffered a stroke after being advised by her doctor to stop taking anti-coagulant medication, according to a suit filed Feb. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Ramona Richards is seeking in excess of $50,000 from Ashok Kumar, M.D., a physician who practices medicine in Flora, Ill.
Richards claims Kumar directed her to quit taking Coumadin -- a drug that helps reduce clots from forming in the blood -- in anticipation of an endoscopy and colonoscopy procedure in February 2006.
"The defendant...failed to administer other drugs and to monitor the plaintiff's blood condition," the complaint states.
Richards, represented by James R. Williams of Williams, Caponi, Foley & Eckert of Belleville, also claims she suffered loss of vision, incurred medical expenses and experienced pain and suffering.
