A woman who slipped and fell at the Granite City Schnucks filed a personal injury suit in Madison County Circuit Court Feb. 20, seeking damages in excess of $60,000 for injuries she allegedly sustained.
Latoya Walker claims she was shopping at the Schnucks located at 3100 Madison Avenue on Aug. 8, 2007, when she slipped and fell on water that accumulated on the floor causing extensive injuries to her head, low back and left hip.
Walker claims Schnucks failed in its duty to use reasonable care in its dealings with the public so as to avoid the infliction of injury or distress on their customers and the public at large.
She also claims the supermarket was negligent is failing to properly train employees on the correct way to mop up water, failed to warn her of the water on the floor, allowed the water to remain and accumulate and failed to remove the water in the area she had to shop.
Walker claims her injuries have caused and will continue to cause pain and suffering, disability, lost wages and medical expenses.
She is represented by John Hustava of Collinsville.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
