Gertie Smith filed a medical malpractice suit against Anna Smith, D.M.D. of Godfrey claiming the dentist failed to use proper dental practices in placing dentures in her mouth.
According to Gertie Smith's suit filed Jan. 29 in Madison County, Dr. Smith on Feb. 6, 2006, failed to properly inform her of a planned treatment and potential problems, failed to provide her a proper denture and failed to provide proper charting of her ongoing treatment.
As a result of the alleged negligence, Gertie Smith alleges she has and will continue to suffer injuries to her upper and lower gums, including problems with talking and eating.
She also claims she has and will continue to sustain pain and suffering, a disability, medical expenses and loss of wages.
Represented by Lance Mallon and Dawna Hale of Wood River, Smith is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
Mallon filed an affidavit stating he was unable to obtain a consultation from another health care professional before the two-year statute of limitations would run, but promises to have one within 90 days of the filing.
The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder.
