Jesse's Place in ESL sued by customer in attack

Willie Gene Fleming and his wife Jacqueline Fleming are suing Jesse's Place in East St. Louis and its owners for an attack that left Willie Gene Fleming severely and permanently injured.

The Flemings claim James Jones, Jesse Bryant, Larry Bryant and Jesse's Place failed to provide necessary personnel to protect against the misconduct of unwanted individuals on defendants' premises.

Willie Gene Fleming claims he was beaten, shot and robbed by two unidentified individuals without provocation on Feb. 24, as he was leaving the establishment, located at 103 Collinsville Ave.

The suit also claims the defendants failed to remove persons from the premises after it had become apparent that they posed a threat of violence and failed to take reasonable action to protect against the misconduct of third parties.

Represented by Ronald J. Foster of The Rex Carr Law Firm in East St. Louis, the Flemings are seeking in excess of $400,000 in damages.

Jacqueline Fleming claims loss of consortium.
