Wrongful termination suit filed against Edwardsville business

Frank Chandler filed a wrongful discharge complaint against YRC Logistics of Edwardsville alleging he was fired because his employer assumed he would file a claim for workers' compensation benefits.

Chandler, of Granite City, claims that on July 23 he was operating a fork truck and because of severe pain, he was unable to continue and reported that he was injured and needed medical help to his supervisor.

According to the complaint filed Nov. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court, Chandler saw a physician who ordered him not to return to work.

"Defendant knew or should have known that plaintiff's pain was caused by plaintiff's work for defendant," the complaint states.

Chandler claims in retaliation for the belief that he would file a claim for benefits, YRC terminated his employment on Aug. 22, in violation of the public policy of Illinois.

He claims his wrongful discharge has caused him to sustain a great loss of wages and benefits in an amount in excess of $50,000.

Chandler is represented by Morgan Scroggins of Granite City.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder.
