Cable trip lands Charter in court

A Belleville woman claims she was made sick, sore and lame after tripping over an unburied cable line at her home more than two years ago. She is suing Charter Communications for damages in excess of $100,000.

Phyllis C. Brown, who resides at 2607 Eastview, claims she was walking on the premises of her residence on Sept. 11, 2005, when she tripped on a cable which had been left above ground by Charter.

In a suit filed Sept. 11 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Brown claims Charter is negligent for failing to bury the line, failing to warn her of the risk and failing to hire a subcontractor to bury or secure the cable in a timely manner.

In addition to sustaining shoulder, knee and leg injuries, Brown claims she has expended money for medical care, suffered a disability and emotional damage, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages.

She is represented by John H. Fredrick and David C. Nelson of Nelson & Nelson in Belleville.
