Madison County Sheriff's deputy Kevin Sitton was laid to rest Monday morning at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens in Glen Carbon.
Sitton, an 11-year veteran of the department, died last Thursday from complications after heart valve replacement surgery.
Hundreds of Sitton's friends and family attended the funeral as well as dozens law enforcement officers from police departments in Madison and St. Clair County including the Illinois State Police.
Leading the nearly one and a half mile funeral procession was a police escort of Madison County Sheriff's Department squad cars.
Sitton leaves behind his wife of nearly five years, Jill, and two daughters, Rylee and Elaina.
Also surviving are Kevin's mother, Mary Jane Sitton, his grandmother, Vela Sitton, and brother Steve Sitton.
A benefit fund has been established at the Bank of Edwardsville to help the family.
