Woman sues funeral home over vehicular accident

Melanie Phillips filed a personal injury suit against John Mick and Werner-Mick Funeral Home in Madison County Circuit Court July 25, seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for injuries she sustained in an automobile accident.

Phillips claims Mick was driving a 1995 GMC owned by the funeral home on Aug. 30, 2006, when he collided with her on Pontoon Road in Pontoon Beach.

She claims Mick negligently and carelessly failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove his vehicle while intoxicated, failed to sound his horn in time to warn her and drove his vehicle without safe and adequate brakes.

According to Phillips, the collision caused injuries to her shoulders, neck, back, head and other areas that cause great pain and mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, a disability, and loss of a normal life.

She is represented by Michael Glisson of Alton.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder
