O'Fallon sued for dangerous sidewalk

The city of O'Fallon is being sued by a woman who claims injuries after suddenly stepping off a sidewalk.

Jeanine Armstrong is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages for a broken tibia and fibula and other internal and external injuries she suffered a year ago.

According to a personal injury suit filed May 7 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, the incident occurred as Armstrong was walking southbound on a sidewalk located at 1338 Stone Creek Dr. at 7:30 p.m. on May 9, 2006.

She claims the city is negligent for failing to maintain the sidewalk in a safe fashion and for failing to warn her of the dangerous condition it posed.

Armstrong also claims a head injury and a disability as a result of the incident.

She is represented by James R. Williams of Williams, Caponi & Associates of Belleville.
