Barge worker claims injuries aboard Miss Shirley, Teresa Ann

Jeff Jensen, a utility man and crew member of the Miss Shirley has filed a Jones Act suit against Columbia Marine Services in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Jensen claims he was injured on Aug. 12, 2004, near mile 173 in Cahokia on the Mississippi River, while changing shackles on an anchor chain which was attached to barges.

"That at the time and place aforesaid, tension caused slack to run from the wire at which plaintiff was working causing plaintiff injuries," the complaint filed April 23 states.

Jensen claims he suffered severe and progressive injuries to his back, hip and lower extremities.

He also claims that while working on the barge Teresa Ann on May 1, 2004, he was injured when the stern wire he was pulling was snagged on an unknown object below the surface of the river.

That incident caused him to suffer a shoulder injury, the complaint states.

Jensen is represented by Sandor Korein of Korein Tillery of Belleville.
