Belleville Wal-Mart customer sues for water on floor

Wal-Mart is being sued by a paying customer who claims she slipped on water in front of a Belleville store and suffered injuries.

Connie Sontheimer alleges in a St. Clair County Circuit Court lawsuit that she hurt her neck, shoulder and low back on July 18, 2005. The incident occurred at the store located at 120 Carlyle Ave.

Sontheimer, represented by Thomas C. Rich of Fairview Heights, is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.

She claims the store failed to manage, inspect, clear and maintain its premises in a safe condition. She also claims the store failed to have a safe procedure for cleaning water on the premises.

According to the suit filed April 16, Sontheimer has expended money for necessary medical treatment and has suffered disability as a result of her injuries.
