Patty Jo Newman of Fairview Heights is suing the owners and managers of an apartment complex where she resides after falling on ice and breaking her leg in the parking lot Feb. 15.
Newman claims Highway 159 Apartment Management and Midwest Diversified Properties -- which operate Winchester Place Apartments -- failed to give her safe ingress and egress to her apartment following a substantial ice and snowstorm.
"When plowing ice and snow from the parking lot, he piled it in such a manner so as to create a mounded unlevel, unnatural accumulations that posed a hazard to plaintiffs and others attempting to acess apartments," states the suit filed April 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Represented by Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Blaine, Kelly, Napp & Darr of Alton, Newman claims she is disabled and will continue to be hindered in attending to usual duties and affairs. She claims she has become liable for medical bills and has lost and will lose wages.
She is seeking in excess of $100,000 in damages plus costs of the suit.
