Gail Patzer filed suit against the city of Belleville and Autozone for tripping on a path.
Seeking in excess of $200,000, Patzer claims the city and the auto parts store at 521 Carlyle Ave. are negligent for failing to remedy a 20-inch deep, 15-inch wide hole in a pedestrian path.
"Defendants knew or should have know of latent defects in the path that would not be observed by pedestrians on the path, which could cause serious injury," the complaint states.
Patzer is represented by William P. Gavin of Belleville.
She claims she sustained severe, permanent injuries to the skin, bones, cartilage, tendons, nerves and ligaments in her left knee.
Her suit claims pain and suffering and disability, as well as lost income and medical expenses.
