Ortho surgeon Simmons sued over carpal tunnel surgery

Victor Len filed a medical malpractice complaint against orthopedic surgeon Gregory Simmons, M.D. of Belleville claiming his endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery was negligently and carelessly performed.

Represented by Thomas Q. Keefe of Belleville, Len and his wife Wilma Len, are seeking in excess of $300,000 in damages from Simmons and Orthopedic Surgery LLC.

Len alleges Simmons severed his median nerve.

"That as a direct and proximate result of the foregoing act of negligence on the part of the defendant as aforesaid, plaintiff has suffered permanent, painful injuries including permanent injury to his right upper extremity," the complaint states. "Plaintiff has suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement."

Wilm Len claims she has been permanently damaged in that she has incurred and become liable for large sums of money in hospital, medical and related expenses, and has been permanently deprived of love, companionship, consortium, and support from her husband from which she was entitled.

The suit was filed Feb. 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
