Scalp burn prompts suit against beauty supplier

Kings Beauty in Fairview Heights

Kings Beauty Supply in Fairview Heights is being sued by a customer whose head was burned by a hair product.

Ruth Binford claims she bought Salon Pro Exclusive from the store in April 2005 and after using the product her scalp became infected and inflamed. She also lost hair.

Represented by Michael J. Brunton of Collinsville, Binford claims Kings Beauty Shop and the product manufacturer Universal Beauty Supply are negligent for distributing a beauty product that would cause severe burns to her head and extreme itching.

She is seeking in excess of $300,000 in damages.

Binford claims she suffered extensive physical injuries to her scalp and head, endured severe emotional trauma, incurred medical expenses, lost wages and sustained disability or a loss of a normal life.

The glue and chemicals were defectively designed and the product contained insufficient warnings on the packaging, the suit claims.
