Brian Williams filed a personal injury suit against Ford Motor Co. in Madison County Circuit Court Feb. 2, claiming the cruise control in his 2004 Ford F-150 was defective and dangerous.

Represented by Lon Weaver of East Alton, Williams claims that on Feb. 4, 2005, he was driving in Jersey County and while attempting to make a turn his vehicle sped up without his foot being on the accelerator causing him to hit a tree.

He is seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

Williams claims his Ford truck was dangerous because the accelerator stuck due to a mechanical and design defect.

He claims that as a result of hitting the tree he suffered extensive injuries to his body as a whole which caused him to experience pain and suffering, lost wages, medical expenses and a disability and disfigurement.

Six class action suits recently filed against Ford in federal court allege Ford is negligent for producing vehicles with defective speed control deactivation switches.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nick Byron.
