Maurice Morris filed suit in U.S. District Court Dec. 28, claiming he was fired from Prairie Farms because he is an African-American.
Represented by Ed Dorsey of Carbondale, Morris is seeking compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $300,000 claiming he was fired in 2004 solely based on his race.
The one-page complaint did not indicate where Morris worked or when.
"Plaintiff has suffered substantial losses in earnings and employee benefits, extreme depression and mental anguish," the complaint states.
Morris claims he is also entitled to back pay due to Prairie Farms alleged outrageous acts in violation of his statutory rights.
The case has been assigned to District Judge William Stiehl.
