Rev. Scott files suit against motorcyclist

Rev. Johnny Scott, president of the East St. Louis NAACP, has filed suit against a motorcyclist who struck and severely injured him on a city street earlier this year.

Represented by Ronald J. Foster, Jr. of the Rex Carr Law Firm in East St. Louis, Scott is seeking in excess of $50,000 from Steven Jones in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the suit filed Dec. 19, Jones struck Scott with a 2001 Harley Davidson on March 3 while traveling eastbound on Missouri Avenue. Scott was walking along 2114 Missouri Ave.

Scott claims Jones failed to swerve "and had ample opportunity to avoid" striking him.

He also claims Jones drove his motorcycle at an excessive rate of speed.

"As a direct and proximate result of one or more of the aforementioned acts or omissions of negligence, the plaintiff sustained numerous severe, permanent injuries," the complaint states.

He also claims disability and disfigurement, pain and suffering, loss of large sums of money, medical expenses and the loss of larges sums of money he might otherwise gained from the pursuit of his usual employment.
