Carla Gianformaggio is suing the village of Cahokia for laying asphalt over a drain pipe near her driveway on St. Luke Street.
According to the complaint filed Dec. 6 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, the asphalt near the drain pipe collapsed on June 7 causing Gianformaggio to slip, fall and injure her leg and ankle.
Represented by Bernard J. Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville, Gianformaggio is seeking in excess of $15,000 plus costs of the suit.
She claims the village failed to seek her permission to lay the asphalt and failed to advise her that the placement of the asphalt created a hazardous condition.
Gianformaggio claims she has been prevented from attending to her usual and ordinary affairs and has lost and will continue to lose sums as wages, as well as has incurred medical expenses.
