Flying J tanker driver blamed for pedestrian fatality

Flying J Inc. and one of its tanker truck drivers are being sued in St. Clair County Circuit Court by the family of a woman struck and killed at an East St. Louis intersection.

Angela Hall was fatally injured after being hit by a truck driven by Jeffrey Gibbs at the intersection of Mississippi Avenue and Jerome Lane on Nov. 24, 2004.

Hall's estate is represented by Mark Peebles of Enyart & Peebles in Belleville. The suit, filed Nov. 21, is being brought by Carol Caskanett, Hall's personal representative, and Hall's three minor children, Kyle David Hickman, Colin Hall and Derek Hall.

According to the complaint, Gibbs negligently drove the Flying J vehicle.

"That Jeffrey Gibbs made statements to reporting police officers that he did not know he hit someone/something," the complaint states.

The plaintiffs claim they have lost the services, consortium, companionship, comfort, instruction, guidance, counsel, training and support of Angela Hall, as well as suffered pecuniary losses, mental and physical pain and suffering.
