Bi-State bus passenger claims injuries from collision

A Bi-State bus passenger claims she suffered severe and permanent injuries when the bus she was riding in collided with a van last year in East St. Louis.

Kathleen Donahue is seeking in excess of $200,000 in damages from Bi-State and its driver Ronda D. Johnson, as well as the driver of the van, Danaiel Self, and his employer, Shannahan Crane & Hoist, Inc.

Donahue's attorney, Stephen C. Buser of Columbia, filed the suit Nov. 22 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Johnson failed to keep a proper lateral lookout as she drove the bus north on 8th Street in East St. Louis on Nov. 29, 2005.

Self was driving a 1997 Ford E250 van owned by Shannahan Cranse & Hoist east on Broadway Avenue when the collision took place.

Donahue claims Self failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.

She claims disability and disfigurement, pain and mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses.
