A fatal highway accident that happened last year in Massac County is the subject of a St. Clair County lawsuit.
The plaintiffs, administrators of the estates of two passengers killed Dec. 8, 2005 on eastbound Interstate 24, reside in Oaxaca, Mexico. They claim Eloy Ayala Lopez and Constantino Vasquez Garcia died as a result of the negligence of defendant Genesis Transportation Co., a Missouri corporation.
According to the suit filed Nov. 9, a tractor trailer driven by Jerry Eugene Morgan, a Genesis employee, rear-ended a 1997 GMC Jimmy in which Lopez and Garcia were passengers.
The suit claims Morgan drove too fast and failed to avoid the collision even though he had ample time and opportunity to avoid the accident.
Juventina Quintas Salinas, on behalf of Lopez, and Catalina Salinas Quintas, on behalf of Garcia, are seeking in excess of $200,000 in damages.
They are represented by Douglas Petrovic of Corboy and Demetrio of Chicago.
