Fifth Appellate court race totals

Saline County Circuit Judge Bruce Stewart defeated Fifth Appellate Court Judge Steve McGlynn by approximately 20,000 votes.

According to a tally that includes 1,268 of the district's 1,329 precincts (or 95% of all precincts), Stewart received 193,890 votes to McGlynn's 174,800 votes. Stewart received 52.58 percent of the vote total to McGlynn's 47.49 percent of the total.

Stewart's support was strong in counties outside the Metro-East. The Fifth Judicial District includes the state's 37 southernmost counties.

In Saline County, Stewart's home turf, he received 77% of the total, or 6,786 votes to McGlynn's 2,054 votes.

In Franklin County, Stewart received 69% of the total, or 8,887 votes to McGlynn's 4,038 votes.

In Williamson County, Stewart received 62% of the total, or 11,629 votes to McGlynn's 7,114 votes.

In Jackson County, Stewart received 61% of the total, or 8,452 votes to McGlynn's 5,408 votes.

McGlynn was solid in his home turf, St. Clair County, garnering 52% of the total, or 30,975 votes to Stewart's 28,354 votes.

But he only got 7% of the total in East St. Louis, or 425 votes to Stewart's 5,447 votes.

McGlynn also won traditionally Republican strongholds including Washington County, the home of Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier.

McGlynn received 58% of the total in Washington County, or 1,631 votes to Stewart's 1,167 votes.

Karmeier had recommended McGlynn's appointment to the appellate court, which was approved by the Illinois Supreme Court in July 2005.

In Effingham County, McGlynn received 62% of the vote, or 7,302 votes to Stewart's 4,421 votes.

In Clinton County, McGlynn received 60% of the total, or 7,057 votes to Stewart's 4,646 votes.

In Monroe County, McGlynn received 54% of the total, or 5,761 votes to Stewart's 4,881 votes.

In Bond County, McGlynn received 53.3% of the total, or 2,672 votes to Stewart's 2,345 votes.
