Parents sue bike maker and Toys R Us for son's injuries

The parents of a Dupo child are suing Iron Horse Bicycle Co., World Wide Cycle Supply and Toys R Us for injuries their son suffered in a "Harley Davidson" bicycle accident last year.

In an 18-count suit filed Oct. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Thomas and Rebecca Harvell claim their son, Drake Harvell, sustained severe and permanent injuries to his face, mouth and teeth when he was "violently" thrown off his 16-inch bike on March 7, 2005.

According to complaint, a weld securing the front fork of the bike failed, causing the accident.

The Harvells claim their son suffers physical pain and mental and emotional distress; he became disfigured and disabled and has lost his normal enjoyment of life.

They are represented by Kenneth P. Danzinger of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk & Danzinger of Granite City.
