Pipefitter sues Belleville East for tripping in hole

A pipefitter injured at Belleville East High School filed a personal injury suit against the school in St. Clair County Circuit Court Aug. 24, alleging the school failed to maintain its property in a reasonably safe condition.

Represented by Kevin Boyne of Belleville, Brian McGee claims he was working on a building at the school on Sept. 9, 2005, when he stepped into a hole causing bodily injuries.

McGee claims Belleville East failed to provide adequate lighting, failed to provide a cover for the hole in the floor, failed to provide a railing or protective structure around the hole, failed to replace burned out light bulbs and failed to provide warnings about the hole.

He claims his injuries caused disability and disfigurement, pain and suffering, medical expenses and loss of income.

McGee is seeking actual damages in excess of $50,000 and punitive damages in excess of $50,000.
