Swansea Care Center is being sued by the estate of Hattie Jeff Armstrong who allegedly suffered decubitus ulcers, dehydration and septicemia while she was a resident of the long-term care facility.
According to the suit filed Aug. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Swansea Care Center allegedly failed to care for Armstrong in a manner which maintained and enhanced her dignity and quality of life.
The suit also claims the facility failed to employ sufficient staff, and failed to provide sufficient assistance to Armstrong in areas of bathing, dressing, grooming, transfer, ambulation, toileting and nutrition, among other complaints.
Rose Marie Williams is the special administrator of Armstrong's estate. She is represented by Robert H. Gregory of Belleville and is seeking at least $100,000 in damages.
The complaint also alleges the defendant violated the Nursing Home Care Act.
"By reasons of her injuries, she became liable for large sums of money for nursing care and attention, physician, hospital and other bills in and about endeavoring to become healed and cured of her injuries," the complaint states.
