Intavenous site infection prompts wrongful death suit

Anderson Hospital

Frederick Simon's estate filed a wrongful death suit against three doctors, a physician's assistant and Anderson Hospital in Madison County Circuit Court Aug. 7.

The defendants, Michael Mandis, M.D., Paul Malcharek, M.D., Tibor Kopjas, M.D., Natalie Redmond, PA-C and Anderson Hospital are accused of negligently and carelessly failing to properly evaluate Simon's intravenous site before discharging him from Anderson on March 18, 2005.

Simon's estate also claims the defendants failed to timely and properly diagnose and treat Simon's IV site infection before discharging him and failed to timely and properly diagnose and treat him for bacterial sepsis.

According to the complaint, Simon's next of kin have been permanently deprived of his love, companionship, consortium, society and support and also caused the estate to be liable for medical and funeral expenses.

Simon's estate also claims he sustained permanent pain, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement prior to this death.

Represented by Tom Keefe of Swansea, Simon's estate is seeking damages in excess of $375,000, plus all costs of the suit.
