Walter Minton of Shiloh filed a personal injury lawsuit against Freeburg Township for injuries he sustained on allegedly defective steps.
Minton is seeking in excess of $50,000 due to an incident that took place Aug. 4, 2005, as he was exiting the Freeburg Township General Assistance Office located at 203 South Richland in Freeburg.
"The steps leading in and out of the aforementioned building were unreasonably safe in that they were too narrow, which allowed patrons to lose their balance and slip and fall," the complaint filed June 21 in St. Clair County states.
Minton, who claims leg, arm and neck injuries, is represented by Bernard J. Ysursa of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin of Belleville.
He claims the steps were not up to building code and that the defendant failed to warn patrons of the defective nature of the steps.
