Madison County Circuit Judge Daniel Stack will preside over a medical malpractice trial scheduled to begin today.
Pamela Hoppe, as special administrator of the estate of William Hoppe filed suit against Troy doctor Dolores Cantrell on Feb. 27, 2004, claiming she misdiagnosed her husband on July 18, 2003, which caused his death the very next day.
Hoppe claims that Cantrell failed to recognize her husband's symptoms of unstable angina and to adequately and promptly treat the angina and failed to send her husband to a cardiologist for immediate help.
According to the complaint, at the time of his death, William was survived by his wife and two teenage children who have been deprived of large sums of money and valuable services he would have provided.
Seeking damages in excess of $50,000, Hoppe will be represented by Morris Chapman of Granite City.
The trial is expected to last about seven to 10 days.
