Cancer patient claims radiation over used

Cancer patient Alice Louise Boyd claims her oncologists administered radiation too broadly on her abdomen in a medical malpractice lawsuit filed in St. Clair County.

Defendants in the April 5 lawsuit include Mary W. Conti, M.D., Mohamed S. Megahy, M.D., Padma I. Raju, M.D., Dean Norton, M.D., Radiation Oncology and Tri-County Radiation Oncology.

Undergoing post-surgical treatment of colon cancer in 2004, Boyd claims the over-use of radiation caused her to suffer severe radiation enteritis throughout her abdomen.

"As a proximate result of the injuries described above, plaintiff has and will continue to experience great pain, suffereing and disability, and has incurred and will continue to incur great expense in endeavoring to be cured," the complaint states.

Boyd is represented by William P. Gavin of the Gavin Law Firm in Belleville.
