Jerry Moeser filed a medical malpractice suit against Donald Serot, M.D. and Belleville Memorial Hospital in St. Clair County Circuit Court March 30, seeking damages in excess of $250,000.
Represented by Joseph Bartholomew of Belleville, Moeser claims that Serot and Memorial Hospital negligently and carelessly malpositioned a surgical device called an "acetabular component" on Nov. 2, 2004.
Serot retired from practice in July 2005, citing the high cost of medical malpractice insurance.
Moeser claims that he sustained severe and permanent injuries to his hip causing the need for a revision which caused physical pain, mental suffering, mental anguish and disfigurement.
He also claims that he has lost wages, become liable for medical expenses and has been permanently prevented from attending to his usual affairs and duties.
Moeser's wife, Jane, also is seeking damages claiming her husband's injuries have caused her to suffer a loss of consortium.
