Ronald Howard filed a retaliatory discharge suit against Schaefer Water Centers in Millstadt claiming he was fired after filing a workers' compensation claim.
Howard claims that he was injured while working within the course and scope of his employment on Aug. 16, 2005, after which he filed for benefits.
According to the complaint, filed March 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, he was terminated from his employment on Sept. 16, 2005, in retaliation for asserting his rights under workers' comp laws.
Howard claims he has and will continue to suffer damages including lost wages, mental anguish, embarrassment, loss of a normal life and damage to his dignity and reputation.
"Defendant terminated Howard maliciously and in reckless disregard for the rights of Howard under the workers' compensation law."
Howard is seeking compensatory and punitive damages in an amount less than $75,000.
He is represented by Edward Szewczyk of Callis, Papa, Hale, Szewczyk & Danzinger in Granite City.
