Death blamed on narrow road in Madison County

A man who claims that County Line Road in Troy is too narrow filed a wrongful death suit against Jarvis Township in Madison County Circuit Court Jan. 3.

Melvin Woodruff claims that his wife Julie Woodruff was killed when the car she was traveling in collided with another car driven by Donna Davis on Jan. 2, 2005.

According to the complaint, Davis was not liable for the accident, Jarvis Township was for failing to provide a roadway that is of sufficient width for traffic traveling on County Line Road.

Woodruff also claims that Jarvis Township failed to post sufficient signage to warn traffic that the road is narrow.

He claims his wife suffered serious injuries of a personal and pecuniary nature including great conscious pain and suffering before her death.

Woodruff also is seeking damages for medical and funeral expenses. He is represented by David Nelson and John Fredrick, Jr. of Nelson & Nelson in Belleville.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Nicholas Byron.
