Flattened boxes injures Dollar General shopper

Dollar General in Southview Plaza in O' Fallon

A woman who claims she fell on flattened cardboard boxes at the O'Fallon Dollar General store filed a personal injury suit against the store.

Valarie Hutchins claims that on Jan. 4, 2004, she was shopping at the Dollar General in Southview Plaza in O' Fallon at noon when she tripped on the boxes that were in the aisle.

She is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages.

According to Hutchins, Dollar General breached its duty to exercise ordinary care for the safety of customers by failing to remove the flattened cardboard boxes from the aisle, failing to keep the aisle free of obstructions, blocking the aisle with other boxes and forcing her to step on the boxes.

She claims she suffered injuries to neck, shoulder, back and left knee, which caused a disability or loss of a normal life, disfigurement, lost wages, pain and suffering and medical expenses.

Hutchins is represented by Del Goldenhersh of Belleville.
