Ramon’s El Dorado restaurant denies liability in Dram Shop lawsuit

A Collinsville restaurant named in a Dram Shop lawsuit over a couple's claims they were injured in a rear-end collision has denied allegations against it.

Plaintiffs Douglas Smith and Jean Causey filed a lawsuit against Ramon’s El Dorado restaurant, Ramon’s La Familia Inc., Ramon Otero and Carlos Otero on Feb. 17.

The plaintiffs claim the “violent” rear-end collision took place on March 21, 2014, on North Bluff Road. They allege the driver was served alcohol at the Collinsville restaurant prior to causing the accident, the suit states.

The plaintiffs do not name the other driver as a defendant in the lawsuit.

Smith and Causey claim they suffered loss of normal life as a result of their severe injuries.

The defendants denied the allegations against them in their April 10 answer. They demand a trial by jury.

Michael Glisson of Alton represents the plaintiffs.

John P. Cunnginham and Daniel G. Hasenstab of Brown & James in Belleville represents the defendants.
