Alton nail salon and owner blamed for customer's alleged staph infection

A Jersey County woman filed suit against a nail spa and its owner after she allegedly contracted an infection following a pedicure in April 2013.

Cynthia Long filed suit against TD Nail Spa LLC and Oanh Nguyen, of Alton, on Feb. 12 in Madison County Circuit Court, alleging negligence.

The plaintiff was a customer of the salon, located at 1837 E. Homer M. Adams Parkway, Alton, on April 20, 2013.

According to the suit, an employee placed a raw salt compound on the plaintiff’s lower right leg that caused irritation to her skin. Long alleges that a staph infection later resulted from the treatment.

She claims that she has sustained permanent disfigurement, lost wages, past and future pain and suffering; has incurred medical bills; and cannot earn as much income as she could if she had not been injured.

Long is claiming that TD Nail Spa failed to exercise reasonable care by sanitizing its instruments. She also claims a worker applied the treatment improperly and did not perform services in compliance with industry standards and policies. Long seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs.

She is being represented in the case by John C. Webster of Williamson, Webster, Falb & Glisson of Alton.
