Accident on I-270 results in Madison County suit

A motorist is suing the truck driver whom she alleges struck her while switching lanes.

Margo Mensinger alleges she was driving west on Interstate 270 in Madison County on May 13, 2013, when defendant Normal L. Hill, who was driving in the same direction for defendant Cumberland International, changed lanes and struck her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Mensinger suffered severe injuries to her spine, endured great pain and disability and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Feb. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court. She also suffered emotional injuries and suffered from a diminished ability to enjoy life, the suit states.

Mensinger blames Hill for causing the collision, alleging he negligently drove inattentively, drove carelessly, failed to control his vehicle, drove too fast and failed to keep a proper lookout.

Cumberland contributed to the collision, saying it negligently hired Hill when it should have known of his unsafe past while driving and hired him without performing an adequate investigation, the suit states.

Mensinger seeks seeks an unspecified judgment, plus costs and other relief the court deems just. Attorney Lane Matthews, of Brown and Crouppen in St. Louis, will represent Mensinger.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 15-L-146.
