Woman alleges injuries after bus driver strikes her vehicle

A woman alleges she sustained injuries after a school bus driver failed to stop at a sign and struck her vehicle.

Ashleigh Green filed a lawsuit Jan. 30 in Madison County Circuit Court against Robert Mellenthin, Santander Leasing and the Wood River Hartford School District.

According to the complaint, Green was driving her 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe west on Ferguson Street near its intersection with Fourth Street in Wood River on Oct. 31, 2014, when Mellenthin, who was driving a school bus for Wood River south on Fourth Street, failed to stop at a stop sign.

Because of the collision, Green suffered temporary and permanent injuries, incurred medical costs and was prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs, according to the complaint.

Green blames Mellenthin for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to exercise proper control over the vehicle, failed to brake the vehicle, failed to yield the right-of-way and failed to obey a stop sign.

Green seeks a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs. Attorneys Shawn Lintz, of The Lintz Law Firm in Alton, and Lanny Darr, of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton, will represent Green.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 15-L-115.
