A man has sued the convenience store where he alleges he fell on a patch of ice after he finished shopping.
Dennis Vahle filed suit Jan. 26 in Madison County Circuit Court against Martin & Bayley Inc., doing business as Huck's Store.
According to the complaint, Vahle was shopping at Huck's Store 296 in Carmi on Feb. 24, 2013, and tripped and fell on a mound of snow and ice patch on the sidewalk after exiting the facility.
Due to the fall, Vahle sustained injuries to his left shoulder, arm and neck, experienced pain and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.
Vahle blames the store for causing his fall, saying it failed to provide a safe entrance and exit, ensure the premises were safe, warn of the dangerous condition of the sidewalk and remove ice and snow.
Vahle seeks seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs. Attorney Samuel A. Mormino Jr., of Mormino, Veloff and Snider in Alton, will represent Vahle.
